XPS tile backer vs cement board

Cement board is a heavier cementitious sheet, and in UK wet rooms it is usually tanked because the board itself is not a waterproof core. wedi boards are XPS foam with a cement coating both sides, so water does not pass through the core, but joints, corners and penetrations still need the wedi sealing system.

If you need more on joints, BBA 00/3675, and when a spec still adds a membrane, that is in wedi boards and tanking.

Marmox and Jackoboard are XPS tile backers sold in the UK as well. We do not stock them, so you will need another merchant for their prices and certificates. If a spec names those brands, buy them from someone who does. If the spec is wedi, or you want the wedi system we have on the shelf, you are in the right shop.
